Introduction

The department of Anaesthesiology was started in the year 2003 in order to render anaesthesia services to the needy patients and to impart basic life support skills and education to the undergraduates.The department provides anaesthetic and intensive care services to various surgical specialities like surgery,orthopaedics,ophthalmology ,ENT,gynaecology and obstetrics.

The department is fully equipped and strives to provide quality care and perioperative anaesthesia services to the patients admitted for various surgeries to make their journey through various procedures comfortable.

The Medical College and Hospital being a tertiary care centre, the department caters to a big percentage of high risk patients referred from various adjoining districts and talukas .

The department has adequate staff as per MCI norms for undergraduate course i.e 1 Professor,3 Associate Professor ,4 Assisstant Professor,and Senior and Junior Residents.

Vision ::

The Department is to be a recognized authority in the evaluation and treatment of patients requiring perioperative medical care, including General Anesthesia, Trauma Anesthesia, Obstetric Anesthesia, , Pediatric Anesthesia, Regional anesthesia, , Critical Care and Pain Management. To provide superior education for residents and students in the medical discipline and practice of Anesthesiology and its related specialties.

In addition, we recognize that we must be able to adapt, grow, and respond to rapid changes in health care if we are going to be able to carry out our mission. Maintaining the status quo will not be sufficient. Instead, we need to effect continuous improvement in the quality, safety, and scope of care that we provide in order to increase the importance and value of our abilities and services to our patients their families, and to the medical college.

It is our vision to provide the new and advanced quality anaesthetic and post anaesthetic critical care services to patients for a safe and better outcome and organize as an integrated center whose overall purpose is to improve perioperative and long-term outcomes following surgery and intensive care..

Functions and Objectives
  1. To train the undergraduate students to: Perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation with the available resources and transfer the patients to a bigger hospital for advanced life support. Set up intravenous infusion,oxygen administration and and maintain airway in an unconscious patient.
  2. To train the postgraduates in administering various types of anaesthesia, learn various skill procedures,impart critical care services, perioperative anaesthesia services.
    Train them for best clinical practice [clinical effectiveness] at all times, as informed by evidence based ,and make them able to explain the evidence base of clinical care to patients and to other members of the clinical team, Communicate risk information, and risk-benefit, in ways appropriate for individual patients. Practice ethically and provide patient centred anaesthesia care . Improve opportunities for research and educate about research methodology.

The Department handles various operation theatre anaesthesia services.
Elective Anaesthesia Services
Each Operation Theatre namely Surgery, ENT, Orthopaedics,Obstetrics and Gynaecology Anaesthetic management is done by a team of anaesthetists consisting of
1 Associate professor,
1 Assisstant Professor and
1 Senior and 1 Junior Residents.
Anaesthesiologist also impart services to other departments like Ophthalmology ,Radiology ,Critical Care and Emergency / casualty.

Emergency Anaesthesia Services
A team of Anaesthetists consisting of Assisstant Professor,1 Senior Resident and 1 Junior resident render Emergency services in various operation theatres. An Associate Professor guides this emergency team. The department is rendering anaesthesia as well as postoperative critical care services to various high risk patients. Anaesthesia services are also being provided in various national programmes and heart camps.
